Summer Classes at the Hobart School of Iyenga Yoga; great stuff!

It’s been a long time since I went to this Iyenga Yoga School in Hobart, but I did really respect the teachers and their ‘way’. Their waiting lists were always long. The space back then was small, understated and full of the standard Iyenga props, which I personally love using. If you’re interested in the ‘to use props or to not use props in yoga practice’ debate, click here.
This photo of lovely older owmen practicing yoga with props was found @ http://www.eldr.com/article/fitness/why-use-yoga-props

Below is a list of classes that the Hobart School of Iyenga Yoga offer over Jan; some of which are FREEEE!! (Brilliant). So If you’re visiting Hobart and fancy delving further into some interesting and informative yoga action, check out the Hobart School of Iyenga Yoga. I doubt very much that you’d be let down by the experience.

Sunday Technique Workshop: Nov 30th, 10-12:30 am

Sunday Technique Workshop: Nov 30th, 10-12:30 am
This workshop is designed to give you clearer inroads into your postures through simple techniques that are often not given attention in class due to time limits. The group size will be small so it could be a good opportunity for you to ask questions about your problem postures; troubleshooting them together is usually fun and interesting. Breathing and meditation techniques for stress relief will also be given close attention. All in all, if you are interested in developing your home practice, this wkshop will give you some fine food for thought.

NEW CLASS INFO: xtra class + wkshop scheduled

XTRA CLASSES SCHEDULED … because the Thursday class is a large, keen and fast learning group.
GENTLE YOGA: Tuesdays, Oct 28 – Nov 25, 7:15 pm – 8:30 pm
TECHNIQUE WKSHOP: Sunday, Nov 30, 10 am – 12:30 pm

EXISTING CLASSES:>
STRONG YOGA: Thursdays, Sept. 11 – Nov 27, 7:15 pm – 8:30 pm
TECHNIQUE WKSHOP: Sunday, Nov 2, 10 am – 12:30pm

CLASS CONTENT:>
Both classes, STRONG YOGA and GENTLE YOGA, are open to everyone.
Classifications of STRONG and GENTLE levels are broadly defined.
Simply, the Thursday class has many beginners who would benefit from more attention and many folks who are ready to accelerate into the next gear. So, Thursday will be pitched higher and Tuesday will be pitched at more fundamental teachings; good for post natal/mature age/beginners/intermediate revision.
Both classes will be beneficial to all participants and I’m expecting that having the choice of an alternative class will be a positive option for everyone.

HOW TO BOOK:>
Bookings are still required as class sizes are quite large.
Email or phone to reserve your place and an invoice will be sent electronically.
Payment denotes booking confirmation.

FEES:>
10 session ticket = $120.00
6 session ticket = $90.00
4 session ticket = $60.00

session tickets are transferable. ie, others can use them as well as or rather than you

STUDIO FACILITIES:>
The studio is the time-honoured home of Launceston’s Contemporary Dance Company TasDance, so it’s well loved and full of character. It’s large with a wonderful tarquette floor on wood. It has a good audio system, lots of windows and it’s well heated. Allow time to find a park because the internal parking space can fill quickly. There are showers toilets and change-room facilities.

INSTRUCTOR:>
Your instructor is a 37 y-old mother of one, locally grown, interstate and internationally fertalised, with a passion for all movement arts. She has a B.A in Contemporary Dance and Professional Writing (Deakin Uni) and runs a hybrid production company with her handsome husband here in Launceston: www.brownbreadandbutter.com

She has taught yoga since 1998 to diverse groups and practiced since 1995. Her classes are light hearted.

D believes that good physical and mental health cannot exist independently of each other.
She advocates good life/heart/soul/body through yogic practices taught in a way that’s accessible to everyone. Mixing and crossing physical/mental disciplines is of particular interest to her.

Her base teaching principal is that students inform the class content. She favours guiding independent development over traditional teacher/student learning dynamics. Yoga requires authentic learning; it can’t be faked, so independent enquiry for the practitioner is to be aimed towards. Open communication between instructor and participant is really important to her because participant’s wellbeing is at the core of the practice.

Inspirational Ashtanga Yoga Photographs

Govinda Kai is a person I don’t know. Have a peek at these pics he took in India at the Mysore shala; home of Ashtanga Yoga.
Alan Little also has some nice pics that might help you to see your yoga practice in a broader context. These pics of a workshop in NYC are particularly thrilling to me. I mean it: they blow my mind!

I’m going to an Ashtanga workshop in Melbourne in October and can’t wait. The hosting yoga school is these clever folk.

Graeme and Leonie Northfield
are the instructors of this workshop. They’re coming to Hobart in early October and I really really recommend you trying to track them down to learn from them. They are truly wonderful teachers. I could rave about them for hours.

Nice.

Right. I’m finishing work now, going for a jog and doing some yoga before the wee one gets home; bugger this sitting at a desk!

Happy Days!
